Linwood Q. Ham Jr.

U.S. Army

Lieutenant Colonel Linwood Ham is a career U.S. Army officer and Latin America Foreign Area Officer.  He recently served as the Cuba and Venezuela desk officer, Office of Secretary of Defense/Western Hemisphere Affairs.  Lieutenant Colonel Ham has also served as a security assistance officer in the U.S. Embassy Bogota, Colombia from 2002-2005 and as the Southern Command plans officer at XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg North Carolina, from 2000-2001.  He began his foreign affairs officer career at the U.S. Embassy Caracas, Venezuela in 1997.  Lieutenant Colonel Ham began his Army career in 1988, serving in a variety of assignments in tactical air defense units, including duty in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.


Lieutenant Colonel Ham received a BS (concentration in International Affairs) from the United States Military Academy and a MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College resident program, to include earning the Strategist designation upon completion, the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies, and the Spanish language program of the Defense Language Institute.  His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (second award), and Meritorious Service Medal.
