Tom Selinger is a career Foreign Service Officer with 8 years of overseas experience, much in post-conflict environments in the Balkans. Serving as the political-military officer in the U.S. Embassies in Croatia and Albania, Mr. Selinger worked to promote regional stability through military cooperation, NATO integration, weapons stockpile reduction, war crimes prosecution, and border security. He facilitated coalition troop deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, negotiated destruction of Croatia's excess surface-to-air missiles, and oversaw Albania's declaration of its dangerous chemical weapons stockpile. Prior to his service in Europe, he headed the Immigrant Visa and American Citizen Services sections at the Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Selinger worked for the Canadian Government as the Political and Economic Relations Officer at the Canadian Consulate General in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also served as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army, including combat service in Operation Desert Storm. He holds a B.A. in Journalism from Drake University and speaks French and Croatian. He is married to fellow Foreign Service Officer Kirsten Brooks Selinger.
