Tiffany Murphy

Mrs. Murphy is a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State.  She started her diplomatic career in 2000 as Vice Consul and Fraud Prevention manager at the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara, Mexico. From 2003 to 2005 she managed the Non-Immigrant Visa Section and worked as an Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.  In 2003 while still in Egypt, Mrs. Murphy volunteered to serve a temporary duty as staff assistant to Ambassador Mann in Baghdad, Iraq and then continued on to assist the Senior Advisor to the Iraq Ministry of Health.  Mrs. Murphy most recently returned from Milan, Italy where she served from 2005 to 2009 at the Chief of the Visa Section and Deputy of the Consular Section, at the U.S. Consulate General.  She is now serving as an associate at Georgetown Universitys Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.

Prior to entering the Foreign Service, from 1996 to 2000, Mrs. Murphy worked as in-house counsel for Electronic Evidence Discovery, Inc. where she counseled law firms, courts, and clients on the possible access and use of computer data during the discovery phase of a court case.  Her focuses included privacy law, discovery rules, and computer expertise.  She also managed clients participating in corporate litigation risk reduction services.

Mrs. Murphy is an alumna of Georgetowns School of Foreign Service, where she received her B.S. with a concentration in International Relations, Law, and Organizations.  She then received her J.D. from Seattle University Law School.  Her languages include Italian, Spanish, and some Arabic. 

Mrs. Murphy is married to Michael Kidwell - also a Foreign Service Officer and associate at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.  They have a daughter, Victoria, who is two years old.
