Diplomatic Skills and Capacity

ISD's programs are designed for countries that are increasing active internationally, including those experiencing transition and recovering from conflict.

Separate training modules address diplomatic skills development, including, but not limited to:

  • Leadership, Management and Administration
  • Political and Economic Reporting, Analysis, and Advocacy
  • Protecting Citizens
  • Communicating a Public Message and Working with the Media
  • Representation and Protocol
  • Negotiation
  • Trade and Investment Promotion
  • Multilateral Diplomacy

The Institute's training programs also expose diplomats and foreign policy professionals to issues specific to their needs, including:

  • diplomacy and international development
  • working with emerging international actors
  • new communications technology and diplomacy
  • developing relationships with the US foreign affairs community:¬†Diplomacy of Natural Resources,¬†Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues
