Gaurav Mishra holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Delhi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. From 2002-2008 he worked in India’s private sector, where he managed national level sales and marketing and developed traditional and digital marketing programs for India’s leading car brand Indica.
As a Yahoo! Fellow, Mishra led research on digital activism in India and China, taught a graduate course on how business, civil society and government organizations can engage with online communities, and co-founded Ushahidi-based crowd-sourced election monitoring platform Vote Report India.
After his fellowship at ISD, Mishra went on to found 2020 Social, a social business consulting firm in Delhi. As CEO, Mishra helped organizations build and nurture online communities. Clients included Intel, Dell, Intuit, Frito Lays, Club Mahindra, United Spirits and Janaagraha. The firm was acquired by Publicis Groupe in 2010.
For the next three years, Mishra worked as the Asia VP of Insights, Innovation & Social at MSLGROUP, Publicis Groupe’s strategic communications and engagement network. He helped organizations build and nurture communities and movements around their shared purpose, with the help of storytelling, crowdsourcing and grassroots engagement. He led social media strategy across more than ten agencies in India, Greater China, Japan and Southeast Asia and helped create new insights and innovation offerings for a global network, including software, services and thought leadership. Examples included People’s Lab for crowdsourcing insights and innovations, Social Hive Index for benchmarking social engagement in context with customization, StoryStream for aggregating, organizing and sharing social media content, and PurPle (Purpose + People) for catalyzing collaborative social innovation and grassroots change movements.
In September 2013 Mishra left MSLGROUP to launch FutureCrafting: Technology to craft better futures, a crowd-powered insights and innovations consultancy. FutureCrafting helps early adopters use technology to make more intentional choices, grow more positive habits, and become their best self, and catalyzes new opportunities for organizations and entrepreneurs to create such technologies.
Mishra’s most recently published work is a chapter in Now & Next: Future of Engagement. The book highlights the ten most important frontiers that will define the future of engagement for marketers, entrepreneurs and changemakers: Crowdfunding, Behavior Change Games, Collaborative Social Innovation, Grassroots Change Movements, Co-creation Communities, Social Curation, Transmedia Storytelling, Collective Intelligence, Social Live Experiences and Collaborative Consumption.
Mishra has also been a 2009 SNCR Fellow, a 2009 TED Fellow, and is now a 2013-14 THNK Research Fellow at the Amsterdam School of Creative Leadership.
