Title: Young Asian Diplomats Program 2024
In early June, ISD partnered with The Asia Foundation to host a third cohort of eleven talented young Asian diplomats for a week-long program entitled, “Foreign Policy and Diplomacy in a Global Era.” The participants represented eleven different countries across South, East, and Southeast Asia, as well as the Pacific Islands.
Throughout the week, the participants learned from distinguished Georgetown faculty and ISD State Department Fellows about a host of regional topics, including China’s economic relationships in South Asia, US security policy in Southeast Asia, China-US relations, and the implications of the upcoming US elections for the Asia-Pacific. The faculty and fellows also covered functional issues, such as international negotiation, humanitarian crises, strategic corruption, data and diplomacy, international development, climate security, and international law.
The participants further met with senior officials from the State Department’s Bureau of South Asian and Central Asian Affairs and the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, as well as the Pentagon’s Indo-Pacific Command.
Thank you to all who met with the participants and supported the program throughout the week. We look forward to hosting it again in the future.
