COL Peter Walther is married to the former Michelle Kim of Cypress, California. He commissioned in 2005 from the United States Military Academy as an Infantry Officer. Following completion of Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, GA, COL Walther served in 1-27 IN (Wolfhounds), 2BCT, 25th ID at Schofield Barracks, HI from 2006-2009. During this assignment COL Walther served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, Company XO and Battalion S4. COL Walther deployed with 1-27 IN in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from DEC 2007 – FEB 2009. Following deployment, COL Walther attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, GA and subsequently served in 505th PIR (Panthers), 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg, NC from 2010 – 2013. During this assignment COL Walther commanded Delta Company, 2-505th PIR and Charlie Troop, 5-73 CAV. Following command COL Walther was selected for the JCS Fellowship Program and completed a graduate degree at Georgetown University followed by assignments with Joint Staff, J5, Middle East Directorate and Army Staff, G 3/5/7, Operations Directorate. Following completion of ILE at Fort Belvoir, VA, COL Walther served in 3BCT, 101st ABN DIV at Fort Campbell, KY from 2016-2018 as the Battalion S3 and XO of 3-187 IN (Iron Rakkasans). COL Walther deployed with 3-187 IN in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel from OCT 2016 – JUL 2017. COL Walther then served with 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) as Battalion XO for 4-3 IN from 2018-2019 followed by an assignment as the Operations Officer for Joint Interagency Task Force National Capital Region (JIATF-NCR) from 2019-2022. During this assignment COL Walther conducted multiple deployments to the CENTCOM AOR. COL Walther then commanded 2-35 IN (Cacti), 3BCT, 25th ID from June 2022 - June 2024, Schofield Barracks, HI. COL Walther then served as the G3 Operations Officer for the 25th Infantry Division until June 2025. COL Walther’s major awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge. He is a graduate of the Ranger Course, Basic Airborne and Jumpmaster Courses, Air Assault Course, Pathfinder Course and the Jungle Operations Training Course. COL Walther is currently serving as a Senior Service College Fellow at Georgetown University.
