Kelly Kern
Class of 2022 Weintal Scholar
Kelly Kern is a Master of Science in Foreign Service and Master of Business Administration dual degree student interested in the ways diplomacy and business intersect to solve our global challenges. Her time as a journalist elevating marginalized voices informs her studies and work focused on protecting and extending the civil, economic and social rights of women in communities in crisis. Implementing programs to combat disinformation is one focus she’s interested in pursuing that will require various stakeholders in an increasingly interconnected landscape.
Prior to graduate school, she worked as an associate producer with CBS News. During her time as a researcher and fact-checker at CBS News, she covered stories on gender equality, public health, humanitarian crises and the 2016 U.S. presidential election. She was also an editorial assistant for The Spymasters, a documentary featuring 12 living CIA directors on U.S. counterterrorism efforts since 9/11.
She is a 2014 graduate of Wellesley College with a degree in Political Science and a co-host of the Listen, Ladies podcast. Episodes feature women making an impact in their focus area and have covered Myanmar’s Rohingya crisis, local U.S. elections, and Nigerian women escaping Boko Haram.
