Previously, Major Matthews was an instructor for the Intelligence Weapons Instructor Course at the United States Air Force Weapons School, 19th Weapons Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nevada. Major Matthews has deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in support of Special Operations Task Force-East and to Al Udeid AB, Qatar in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Major Matthews is an Instructor/Evaluator Information Integration Officer with 860 hours on the RC-135V/W and previously served as an Instructor/Evaluator Mission Operations Commander for the Distributed Common Ground System.

Major Matthews is a 2008 graduate of Trinity University with degrees in international business and German. He completed his MBA from University of Phoenix in 2010.
