Rebecca E. Farmer

Rebecca E. Farmer is a career member of the Foreign Service. She most recently served as Assistant Press Secretary and Director for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, where she focused on the Middle East and Africa. Her previous assignments included Political Officer at the U.S. Embassies in Baghdad, Iraq and Kyiv, Ukraine; Press and Political Officer at the Office of Iranian Affairs in Washington, D.C.; and Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Farmer worked at the U.S. Department of Defense’s Africa Command, the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, and Harvard University’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. She completed a B.A. in International Relations and French at Carleton College and an M.S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, with a focus on Arab Studies. She speaks Arabic, Farsi, Russian, and French.
