David Kogon

Colonel (COL) David R. Kogon is a military strategist in the U.S. Army and a Military Fellow affiliated with the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University. 

COL Kogon previously served in strategic-level positions with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel & Readiness, U.S. Africa Command, Headquarters, Department of the Army and Combined Joint Task Force - Operation INHERENT RESOLVE in Baghdad during 2017. He was especially privileged to command at the Battalion and Company level, serve as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, and lead the exceptional Soldiers of 1st Platoon, Able Company, 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment while deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in the vicinity of Fallujah from 2006-2007.

COL Kogon holds a Master’s of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, a Master’s of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Psychology from the College of William and Mary. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI program.

COL Kogon’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for Valor in Combat, the Master Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate from the U.S. Army’s ROTC Program, and a recipient of the General Douglass MacArthur Leadership Award for Company Grade Officers.

COL Kogon previously taught graduate and undergraduate courses on national security leadership and military strategy at Georgetown University and Loyola University Chicago.
