Young Asian Diplomats Program
Since 2019, the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy (ISD) has hosted an annual cohort of ten or more diplomats from across Asia for a five-day program of seminar discussions on foreign policy and diplomacy in a global era. Participation is through nomination only.
It is the first part of The Asia Foundation’s two-week program on “Strengthening Emerging Asian Leadership in Global Relations on U.S. Foreign and Domestic Policy”, made possible in part through the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation.
Program highlights
Over five days, participants learn from distinguished Georgetown faculty, ISD fellows and other world-class experts about a range of regional topics, including China’s economic role in South and Southeast Asia, strategic deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, China-U.S. relations, and U.S. foreign policy priorities and the Asia-Pacific.
Faculty and fellows also cover functional issues, including international negotiation; diplomacy’s public dimension in the digital age; artificial intelligence and national security; international development; water and food security; international security; and Congress’ role in Foreign Policy. Programming also features a focus on the qualities of leadership and visits to key foreign policy-related institutions such as the State Department and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
