Porter Travel Grant

The Horace Porter Travel Grant provides $1,000 to support your research-related travel as a School of Foreign Service (SFS) student. 

Established by Colonel and Mrs. Henry McHarg and Mr. Horace P. Meade to honor the late Horace Porter, U.S. Ambassador to France (1897โ€“1905), the grant supports research on issues of international relations, foreign policy, strategy and diplomacy.

Requirements

  • Travel must be at least 100 miles from Washington, DC
  • Research must relate to an SFS academic requirement

Eligibility and award

The grant is open to all Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) juniors and first-year graduate students in the School of Foreign Service. If your travel is directly related to an SFS academic requirement โ€” such as a capstone project โ€” or would substantially benefit your academic development, you may be eligible for a $1,000 award. Please note that the grant does not cover travel or costs associated with internships or similar activities.

How to apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. You will be responsible for providing receipts upon your return from travel.
